PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
